If you asked serious readers of Scripture to list the books in the Bible they find hardest to understand, Revelation would make the shortlist for many. Zechariah would too. That’s not surprising, since Zechariah reads a lot like the Old Testament version of Revelation. Zechariah is filled with exotic images and puzzling pronouncements. Like Revelation, Zechariah lays out God’s plan for how history will unfold—for Israel, the nations, and for believers. It’s a book that challenges and comforts, stretches and strengthens. In short, it’s a book that needs to be understood and applied.
Last year, I spent several months slowly studying this fascinating book. Each week, I read and re-read one chapter, recording what I learned about its meaning so that I could apply its message.
