The Conviction to Lead

Al Mohler, President of Southern Seminary, has recently written an excellent book for Christian leaders entitled, Conviction to Lead.  He makes the case that Christian leaders must be guided and governed by biblical convictions if they are to lead wisely and well.  “Convictions,” writes Mohler, “are not merely beliefs we hold; they are those beliefs that hold us in their grip.”

“The leadership that really matters is all about conviction.  The leader is rightly concerned with everything from strategy and vision to team-building, motivation and delegation, but at the center of the true leader’s heart and mind you will find convictions that drive and determine everything else.”

At my inauguration celebration in February, I had the opportunity to articulate three convictions that shape and drive my leadership role at Heritage College and Seminary:

  1. Heritage exists for the church
  2. Heritage majors in the Bible
  3. Heritage is motivated by a love for Christ
