A Gift for the Heart of your Pastor

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life” (Proverbs 4:23).

This verse brings an important reminder to everyone of us: the condition of our hearts will determine the calibre of our lives.

If that’s true for every Christian, it’s especially true for pastors. Those who keep watch over the hearts of a congregation must start by keeping watch over their own hearts.

Several years ago, I wrote a book (The Heart of the Preacher) recording fifteen “heart tests” I’ve faced as a person and as a pastor. For example, the tests of ambition, significance, comparison, fear, laziness, stagnating, criticism, and more.

I also highlighted ten practical ways I’ve learned to strengthen my heart for life and ministry.

The hardback and digital versions of The Heart of the Preacher were published by Lexham Press in 2019.

Today (February 5, 2025), Lexham is releasing the paperback version of the book (at a reduced price).

Lexham is giving a copy of the book to every pastor that comes to the Shepherds Conference in Los Angeles this March. You may want to give a copy of the book to your pastor or other pastors you love. It will be a gift that helps them keep watch over their hearts.

Books can be ordered from Amazon, Christian Books, or directly from Lexham Press (Logos Software).
