Prayer and Praise Update (September 3, 2021)

It’s GO time.

This weekend marks the launch of the 2021-2022 school year at Heritage College and Seminary. The campus looks beautiful. The residence halls, now empty, will soon be filled with students. The classrooms–outfitted for both live and livestream teaching–will shortly be places where God’s Word is taught to eager students.

We face this new year with a sense of anticipation and excitement. At the same time, we recognize our need for God’s mercy and grace. Once again this year, running a school will be complicated by COVID realities. Provincial health regulations call for new levels of monitoring and testing. We desire to see Heritage remain a healthy place, both spiritually and physically.

For that reason, I’m writing to ask you to pray earnestly for us as we launch into the new school year. Here are several important requests I’d ask you to remember as you pray for Heritage.

Pray for Move In Day on Monday. Parents and new students arrive early on Monday to move into the residence halls. Linda and I remember what this feels like for parents–a mix of joy and sadness. It can also be an anxious time for new students. Will they make friends? Will they feel at home? Will they do well in their courses? So please pray for that Monday will be a great start to the year for both parents and students. We hold a Dedication Service on Monday afternoon where we pray for students, parents, faculty and staff. Ask the Lord to make this a special service of dedication.

Pray for unity in our Heritage community. Differences related to COVID (masks, vaccines) can lead to disagreements and divisions. Our student council has chosen Ephesians 4:1-3 as our theme verses for the year: “I, therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Pray that we will be empowered by the Lord to live out the truth of these verses.

Pray for our professors as we begin teaching next week. Ask the Lord to keep us tethered to His Word and trusting in His Spirit. Pray for spiritual impact that brings spiritual transformation in lives. Join us praying that the Lord would be glorified and that students would be prepared for a life of service.

Thank you for praying!
