It’s September. That may not be big news for everyone, but it sure is for those of us at Heritage. Today, a new wave of first year students arrive to move into the dorms.
This summer had it’s challenges but we’ve seen God work in wonderful ways. Often at the last moment. And we are so grateful!
In memory of his father, Rick took our boys on a Baseball Road Trip, taking in games in several cities. The final visit was to Detroit to see the Tigers play the Oakland As. In the final inning, with Oakland far ahead, Tori Hunter hit the final pitch with two outs and two men on base. At the last moment, what seemed impossible, was won. After the game, Hunter told a reporter, “We just never gave up.” (Here’s a fan’s video of the home run, taken from the area where we were sitting)
The apostle Paul understood what it was like to see God come in the bottom of the ninth inning:
We do not want you to be unaware brethren of our affliction which came to us in Asia, that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of life; indeed we had the sentence of death within ourselves so that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead; who delivered us from so great a peril, and will deliver us, He on whom we have set our hope. And he will yet deliver us, you also joining in helping us through your prayers, so that thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf for the favor bestowed on us through the prayers of many. (2 Corinthians 1:8)
This summer, we faced some tough challenges (and shared some great blessings!) Rick’s father went to be with Jesus. The school faced the challenge of making it through the summer months when finances fade. We give thanks to God for His faithfulness and for your prayers for us.
As we now turn the calendar to September, would you help us again? Today the student leaders are helping students arrive on campus. The faculty is gearing up, the staff is working hard. Would you join in and help us through your prayers? Pray that God will come through for us in miraculous ways here on the Heritage campus. He’s promised to deliver us, as we pray. Would you take some time, right now to stop and pray for us?
P.S. There’s still time, even in these final moments, to take a class in Ottawa (and perhaps even here in Cambridge).
Absolutely.
